About ‘In The Hive’

In the Hive is a feature film based on an actual school, called the Hive. The film is set in a disadvantaged community and follows a group of at risk teenagers who have been expelled from their public school system. The school, which becomes a life changing environment, is run by a strong matriarch figure whose compassion and no-nonsense manner helps these young men from troubled, often violent backgrounds, greatly improve their educational outcomes, self-esteem and future.

The film stars: Michael Clarke Duncan (Green Mile, Armageddon, Daredevil), Loretta Devine (Grey’s Anatomy, Glee, For Colored Girls) and Vivica A. Fox (Kill Bill: Vol.1, Independence Day, Curb Your Enthusiasm).

In the Hive, a production of Townsend Entertainment Corporation, V Studio and global nonprofit, One Economy, will premiere the movie In the Hive opening night of the American Black Film Festival in Miami on July 6, 2011. It is the first theatrical feature film produced through this unique partnership and is a dramatic interpretation of One Economy’s work with Vivian Saunders to improve the educational outcomes and self-esteem of some of the country’s most disadvantaged young men through a school program that focused on technology, leadership and mentoring.

Rey Ramsey, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of global nonprofit One Economy Corp. had the idea for turning this real life program into a feature film as a way to engage a national discussion about the need to invest in the education and future of at-risk youth.

One Economy collaborated with longtime partner, Hollywood icon Robert Townsend to produce and direct In the Hive. Townsend has produced and directed programs for One Economy’s Public Internet Channel (PIC.TV), a free site which features videos, programs and online tools to help viewers live a better life.
